Poetry And Power
"Grip Of The Myth"
Michael Knapp

sacrifice your son to me
sacrifice your life to me
beware
the demon on the corner
fear me and the mystery

would you die for knowing me?
would you kill to worship me?
blood flow for a sacrifice
down time for a memory

in the grip of the Myth
(without questioning to reason)
in the grip of the Myth
(like a piper's tune to follow)
in the grip of the Myth
(into a pit of pandemonium)
in the grip of the Myth

dig deep and follow through
do the things that others do
without a thought or reasons why
frame the 'face' and place it high

like tales of unknown origin
to control the 'chosen few'
'give me that old time religion'
'God' has told me what you must do

in the grip of the Myth
(on your knees for a prophecy)
in the grip of the Myth
(on your knees for forgiveness)
in the grip of the Myth
(we'll tell you how you must live)
in the grip of the Myth
(such power of suggestion)
in the grip of the Myth
(we'll tell you how you must function)
in the grip of the Myth
(you must follow or die)
in the grip of the Myth
in the grip of the Myth
in the grip of the Myth......
