Most items in this archive do not contain individual copyright notices. The lack of a notice does not necessarily mean than the work is not protected by copyright law. As a general rule, the name of the record company is included with each listing, and they're usually the copyright holders. If in doubt, or if clarification is needed, contact Numa Records and/or Machine Music Ltd. and/or Beggar's Banquet and/or IRS/Illegal Records and/or Polydor Records.

This project came about because, quite simply, I spotted a need and decided to fill it. Although there are a few lyric repositories on the 'net, nobody else has anything close to a complete Numan library. I made some completely arbitrary decisions about what to include and what not to include, as follows:

What Is Here

• All full-length songs Gary's written.
• All full-length songs Gary's co-written with others.
• All full-length songs written by others that Gary has covered.
• Some smaller pieces, such as the entire contents of the "Human" album.

What Is Not Here

• Additional versions of other songs, ie: "Cars" is listed but "Cars Motorway Mix" is not. Exceptions are made when there are clear lyrical differences from the original, ie: "We Take Mystery" and "We Take Mystery - Early Version". Exceptions are also made when the new version has been significantly retitled and reworked, ie: "I Wonder" and "Wonder Eye". However, in some cases, RealAudio clips of several versions (ie: "Cars") will appear on the lyrics page.

Many of the lyrics contained in this database were typed in by others and I've tried to correct some of the more obvious errors. There are very likely many errors still in hiding. If you spot one, please let me know so that I can make the correction. Be sure to tell me which song, and be sure to quote both the incorrect portion and the corrected portion so that I know what to fix.

If you have some Numan lyrics that are already typed in and are ready to be emailed to me directly, please do let me know. But, don't just send them along - tell me what you have and I'll let you know if I need it (this is to prevent hundreds of you all sending me the lyrics to "Cars" again and again).

Great heaping gobs of thanks to Matthew Holbrook, without whom this complete song list would have been a great, great deal harder to assemble.

Also, another steamin' plateful of thanks goes to Dave Datta, the original author of the Gary Numan Discography. This resource was not just invaluable in the creation of this database - it was absolutely essential.

Some additional song lyrics were provided by Scott Levitt & Ted Adams, who obtained them "the hard way". They explain:

"The method we used to get the hardest parts was to record from CD onto the hard disk of my Mac. We then took the clip into Adobe Premiere and slowed it down to around 80% of the original speed. We then listened closely to the vowel sounds in particular to decipher the lyrics. This method, combined with our general familiarity with Numan lyrics and the context of the song allowed us to be pretty sure about what we heard. We could still be wrong, though, so we will certainly not take offense if anyone out there challenges our findings."
