A Review of "Cars: '93 Sprint EP" by Derek Langsford
(who gave it 5 out of 10)

(originally published in The Gary Numan Digest, date unknown)

The UK release of the Cars EP is showing up across the USA I would guess my having seen and then picked up a copy at Tower Records in San Diego.

If you want to hear the song in many of it's reincarnations this CD is for you. We have 7 mixes altogether: the original, 'E' Reg Model, Motorway Mix and 4 others including the '93 sprint mix that will be on the new "The Best of Gary Numan 1978-1983" compilation which hits stores in the UK Tuesday.

The new mixes are not as awful as they could have been considering that they all have added a 90s feel, and most noticably on 3 of the remixes the predictable and overexposed 90s dance style. Still, as remixes go they are relatively subtle and do not destroy the original song. I wouldn't say I like them but they are not completely dismissable.

In all you have over 32 minutes of "Cars' in various forms. I still like the Zues B. Held mixes from 1987. The new mixes do not improve the songs the way those did.

The only mix of Cars that is missing from this CD EP is the 'E' Reg extended model which can be found with it's the Motorway Mix and regular 'E' Reg 7" mix on the Pleasure Principle & Warriors 2CD reissue as well as on the Warriors disc of Asylum vol 2.

I am hoping Al Crawford may post a full review as he is a far better reviewer than I and is more up to date on the 90s scene.

It has seemingly peaked at number 57 in the UK charts so it may disappear shortly or copies may get dumped in the US due to it being Gary's only chart success in the USA.
